About RAAM Society

Founding

Founded in 1994, a small group of fewer than five African American men in DuPage County, IL came together to form a social organization. Their main goal was to help each other find jobs and grow in their careers. They always focused on learning, sharing history, and understanding business. Those same values are still important to them today.

Purpose

Its original Purpose was to Network with one another for career opportunity and advancement. Educational, Historical and Business Awareness has always guided the Principles for this group of Men. Those Ideals continue to this day.

Current

RAAM is a group of about 30 gentlemen who have retired and get together once a month. They talk about different topics, share cool ideas, build relationships, and work on making their group even better. Plus, they always enjoy some breakfast together while they chat!

The Significance of the Sankofa Bird to RAAM

The Sankofa bird stands as a profound symbol underscoring the vital need to look back on our rich and diverse history, acknowledging the invaluable lessons and experiences that have shaped our identities and perspectives over time. This reflection is not merely an exercise in nostalgia; it is a call to honor our past while simultaneously emphasizing the critical importance of advancing with purposeful intent. As we navigate the present, we must carry forward a clear vision that inspires and guides us toward the future we collectively aspire to create, ensuring that we learn from our history to build a more inclusive and empowered tomorrow.
